Mama Rwanda vocational training
Skills that strengthen a whole family.
Vocational and enterprise pathways for vulnerable women, including single mothers.
Irembo saw that supporting children also means empowering their mothers. Mama Rwanda began in 2016, employing a trainer to teach young women and young mothers sewing, weaving and tailoring — skills that let them earn an income and keep their children in school.
An early group of 25 mothers produced 21 graduates. Some found work at a Kigali garment factory and one opened her own tailoring business. A second program was created for young men to make Umulinga sandals, bringing in extra income for their families.
Across its years of activity, Irembo has reached more than 100 single mothers through training, community and family services.
